I was surprised to hear Bird and McHale harbored hostility, but apparently it was fairly well known they didn't get along.
In reading Vecsey's Tweet, I took it to mean that they perhaps downplayed and certainly never revealed the actual depth of their dislike, which sounds to me like they were being grownups about it!
Thanks so much, Andrew. Glad to hear it resonated with you.
I'm always a little hesitant to present myself as some reformed grudge-holder because I still have plenty of petty especially when it comes to rooting interests. But when I came across that Tweet, it really did strike me how differently I used to see those bone-deep resentments.
I appreciate you reading, and thanks for engaging!
Thank you Danny for a great article. Much to reflect on in there. Miss you on Seattle airwaves, happy when I come across your writing. F Jordan, Bad Boys for life :)
Great column Danny. I respect your willingness to openly be honest about yourself. It’s interesting how a random tweet from a familiar media member gave you the opportunity to notice a shift in your own perspective. It allowed you to quantify personal/emotional growth you’ve experienced. That is a wonderful thing and it validates the work you’ve done with therapy. I suppose it also gives you a sense of calm, holding onto resentment is soul-eating in my opinion. I’m happy for you and look forward to reading more of your thoughts on both Seattle sports and Grudgery.
Bird & McHale?
I do wonder what happened to Hall & Oats so late in their life.
